Time to Live Dangerously

11/12/2015

“To live outside of God’s will puts us in danger; to live in His will makes us dangerous.”
~ Erwin McManus from An Unstoppable Force
Typically when someone is considered dangerous, it means they are likely to cause damage or danger to someone or something. In essence they are a threat to safety, order, and peace. As I think about it, I want to be an intentional threat, but not to safety, order, and peace. I want to be a threat to things that injure, defeat, oppress, and negatively impact lives, especially young people.

The world is full of people who play it safe. I don’t want to be one of them. I want to live my life on the edge. However, I’m not necessarily talking about “death-defying” activities, such as bungee jumping, skydiving, or wrestling wild animals (that’s for a different post). I’m talking about maximizing my full potential by utilizing my God-given abilities, talents, gifts, and resources to be a catalyst for life transformation.

I have learned over time that being a life transformation catalyst means that I must be willing to smash the status quo, i.e. standards that people and society have accepted that shouldn’t be. I can’t strive for a life of ease and comfort. I have to take risks, stretch my faith, strategically apply my giftedness, and reach out to people that others have rejected.

By living dangerously, I want to smash the status quo for youth and young adults in the areas of:
  • Purposelessness
  • Hopelessness
  • Injustice
  • Violence
  • Complacency
  • Mediocrity
  • Negativity
  • Stale thinking
  • Low self-esteem
  • Poverty and poverty mentalities
  • Illiteracy
What about you? Are you a threat to any type of status quo? If not, then you’re not living as dangerously as you are capable. Figure out what you want to be a threat to and then go make something happen.

How Teen Brains Work... An Infographic

7/24/2015

Comments

If you're a parent or a teacher you already know that teenagers think much differently than you do. However, sometimes it's hard to understand why. Well here is a an excellent graphical explanation that will help you understand why teenagers think and behave differently than adults, and it's based on the developmental process of the brain (and not just some insatiable desire to be rebellious :-).

13-Year-Old CEO Grows $200,000 Business

7/18/2015

Comments

Success in business can come from anywhere and through anyone, but it seems extra special when the story is about a teenager who has defied the odds. Thirteen-year-old Moziah Bridges, CEO of Mo's Bows, has defied the odds that many adult entrepreneurs have succumb to. His company, which handcrafts his personally designed bow ties, has 5 employees and produced $200,000 in sales. Moziah says the motivation behind his passion is:
"I like to wear bow ties because they make me look good and feel good. Designing a colorful bow tie is just part of my vision to make the world a fun and happier place.”
One thing I really appreciate about him is that he has a big heart to give back to others. He made a special bow tie called the "Go Mo! Scholarship Bow Tie" with 100% of the proceeds going to help underprivileged kids from his hometown of Memphis go to summer camp. He did this because he feels like it’s good business to help the community. He is definitely creating his impact.

This is the type of young person we envision inspiring and supporting through our Kinsman Youth Entrepreneurship Programs. Hopefully we'll have the chance to mentor the next Moziah Bridges.

Is There Not A Cause?

6/30/2015

Comments

Picture
Families are in crisis all over this country. Youth have a deep sense of hopelessness. Schools in inner cities and are failing. It seems like there are a lot of giant issues taunting people everywhere.

This is not much difference between these giants and the giants who taunted a group community thousands of years ago. A young shepherd boy named David showed up on the front lines of a war wondering why nobody was fighting the giant that was taunting his people. The question he asked those around him who should have been fighting was, "Is there not a cause?" He was angry and frustrated that no one was addressing an obvious situation that was negatively impacting a lot of people.

Is There Not a Cause?
The Gospel has the power to transform lives, but if we never take it outside of our church services and to the people in our communities who need it the most, they may never have the opportunity to experience God’s power. Christian CEOs are problem-solvers that use their businesses as platforms to bring positive changes to the places where God positions them to serve (see You Are a C.E.O.).

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best as he described the practical role that the Gospel is to play to combat the challenges that are faced everyday in our cities and communities:
“The gospel at its best deals with the whole man, not only with his soul but also his body, not only his spiritual well-being but also his material well-being. A religion that professes a concern for the souls of men and is not equally concerned about the slums that damn them, the economic conditions that strangle them and the social conditions that cripple them is a dry-as-dust religion.”
Christian CEOs have the potential to decrease the potency of the kingdom of darkness in our neighborhoods, communities, and cities, which will result in a higher quality of life, naturally and spiritually. Specific areas where we should see direct results from our efforts include:
  • Crime
  • Homelessness
  • Educational system
  • Illiteracy
  • Sex slavery / trafficking
  • Physical and mental health
  • Poor lifestyle choices
  • Gangs
  • Poverty
  • Unemployment
  • School dropouts
  • Spiritual depravity
  • Teen Pregnancy
  • Family violence
  • Other areas
You have the opportunity as a Christian CEO to be a transformational agent in people’s lives in one or more of these areas. The question is are you willing to take the challenge of not just being a financially successful entrepreneur, but to be an empowered community leader who helps deliver people out of spiritual slavery?

"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
~ 1 Thessalonians 5:18
I thank God for you. Why? Because you are a blessing to the world. The dreams that He gave you are a special gift that will bring answers to people and solutions to problems.

This season please remember all that God has done for you. But also remember ALL that He still wants to do through you. Enjoy the gifts He has placed in your life and know that your best is still in front of you!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,
Paul Wilson, Jr.

Dream Rally for Jobs

10/14/2014

Whether we realize it or not, we are in the age of the "Entrepreneurial Economy". This doesn't mean everyone will be an entrepreneur. What it means is that every worker needs to approach the workforce with a new mindset. Along with a new mindset, workers will also need new transferable skills that will be sustainable in any work environment or economy. Every person is a personal enterprise who brings significant value to the marketplace. While that may be somewhat frightening for some, this new normal actually creates many opportunities for those who are willing and able to adapt and adjust.

That's why we're excited to host Dream Rally for Jobs in Suffolk, VA this Friday, October 17th at Gates of Heaven C.O.G.I.C. We will be restoring hope, igniting visions, and inspiring dreams of the unemployed, underemployed, and misemployed. If you have been unsuccessful in finding meaning work with a living wage or you know someone in that position please join us for this special event  beginning at 7:30 pm.

This is going to be a great experience for our youth to not only learn business building tools, but they will also acquire other transferable skills that will position them to thrive in any economic environment. Please promote this to teens ages 11 to 17 in your church or community. Learn more at www.incmydream.com/programs.

One reason I'm very excited about this camp is because we'll be using curriculum based on my forthcoming book, Inc. My Dream: A God Inspired Process to Turn Your BIG Idea into a Dream Business. I'm committed to equipping the next generation to think entrepreneurially as problem solvers and this is just one step in the process.

Also, on Friday, June 27th at 7 PM, we will have a special graduation ceremony where the teens will have a chance to present their business ideas. We are inviting families, friends, and business leaders from the community. Please join us!

Jordan Davis's Mother Stands Her Ground This Week on Passion in Action TV

November 23, 2012 is a day that changed Lucia McBath's life forever. Her son, Jordan Davis, and his friends had stopped at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida, after having finished shopping on Black Friday. What occurred next is unconscionable. Police say the man parked next to them, 45-year-old Michael Dunn, got into a confrontation with them over loud music coming from their car and opened fire, hitting Jordan several times. Investigators say the teens had no weapons. Dunn claims he was threatened and is attempting to use Florida's controversial "Stand Your Ground" law as the basis of his defense.

Join us Thursday night, December 5th, for a very special episode of Passion in Action TV as I have the privilege of speaking with Ms. McBath about her son and her efforts since his tragic death to get "Stand Your Ground" laws overturned in this country.

Your Health is Your Greatest Wealth Thursday on Passion in Action TV with Special Guest Celebrity Chef Charles Mattocks

11/20/2013

Picture
Celebrity Chef Charles Mattocks is my special guest this week on Passion in Action TV. Each career move he has made has been in keeping with his desire to touch lives in a positive way. Inspired by his uncle, the late Bob Marley, Mattocks dared to dream big. After giving a stunning performance in the title role of the Emmy nominated "The Summer of Ben Tyler" Mattocks could have continued as a successful actor. Instead this single dad decided the Hollywood lifestyle was not the best for his young son and moved across the country.

His need to create meals that were tasty, nutritious, and affordable led to his career as "The Poor Chef". Appearances on The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Talk, Martha Stewart, CNN and Dr. Oz gave him the opportunity to share what he had learned about feeding a family for less money. He became a sought after guest on local and regional radio and television stations. Once again he achieved success.

Picture
Then came devastating news. Charles Mattocks had type 2 diabetes. Reading all he could about the disease made him all too aware of how little he actually had known about diabetes. He was determined to save his life and knew he had to help others do the same. "The Diabetic You" documentary, website, and movement came out of that determination to educate and inspire people around the world.

This Thursday on Passion in Action TV learn more about how Charles is using inexpensive healthy cooking to change lives. Our conversation will stream at 7PM EST only at www.passioninaction.tv.
