The Kingdom of God is advancing in the marketplace and He is using influential leaders to mentor others. Bishop T.D. Jakes and a host of other Christian leaders are descending on Atlanta November 15-16 to teach their God-inspired business ideas to current and aspiring Christian entrepreneurs. Conquer Atlanta is going to be a very special experience. It's very rare that this many Christian business leaders gather in one place to equip other Christian business leaders. Business should not be viewed by Christians as a secular activity, but a sacred opportunity to influence and impact people both naturally and spiritually. Christians can be anointed to excel in business thereby bringing glory to God in areas where He is often excluded. God can use you just as significantly in your profession as He can in a pulpit. If you believe that God has called you into business, you need to hear from those with a similar calling. If you believe God has called you into full-time ministry, you need to hear from those who have learned how to leverage their calling in ministry and the marketplace. Don't take this opportunity for granted to learn directly from some of the wisest voices in the Body of Christ. Click here to register for this once-in-a-lifetime event... Your network will either help launch you and your business into a new stratosphere or it will keep you middling in mediocrity. The type of people you associate with on a regular basis are a good indicator of your long-term destination, whether that be success or failure. So let's look at three critical relationships that will propel you to maximize your time, talents, and treasures as a Christian entrepreneur... 1) Advisers "Where there is no guidance the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory." ~ Proverbs 11:14 "So don't go to war without wise guidance; victory depends on having many advisers." ~ Proverbs 24:6 If you're always the smartest person in the room you need to find some other rooms to hang out in. Don't be too prideful to take advice from those who are more knowledgeable or wise than you are. Surround yourself with experts in areas of your strengths and weaknesses. Allow those who have traveled the road before you help you to avoid the dangers that could delay or derail your destiny. Humble entrepreneurs are wise entrepreneurs when they recognize the value that others bring to their life and business. Take advantage of the wisdom in people God has placed in your life, and if you don't easily see it seek it outside of your comfort zone. 2) Advocates "When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited... But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests." ~ Luke 25: 8, 10 "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you" ~ 1 Peter 5:6 Every Christian entrepreneur needs a "street team" of people who are singing your praises and recommending your solutions. It's great to toot your own horn, but it's even more effective to have an orchestra of raving fans playing your symphony. There is no better marketing than a satisfied customer. There also no better introduction than someone who can recommend you based on your character. But remember my opening statement... if you don't have a stellar reputation it will be hard to gather people who will stand with you in times of adversity. 3) Assistants "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!" ~ Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 "Share each other's burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ." ~ Galatians 6:2 Even though you are in business for yourself you shouldn't be in business by yourself. If you want your business to grow, you must learn to sell your strengths and buy or barter your weaknesses. You will be in a much more strategic position as a business when you are able to find other people and businesses that complement your core competencies. Many entrepreneurs fail because they lack the willingness to get help and end up trying to do everything themselves. God told Adam it wasn't good for him to be alone, because he would not have been able to fulfill the mandate that He gave him to be fruit and multiply. Likewise, you won't be as fruitful or fulfilled in your business without employing the assistance of those who were assigned by God to help you flourish. You may be a solopreneur, but entrepreneurship is not a solo sport. Even Jesus understood the importance of relationships. He had a close relationship with twelve men, but an even more intimate relationship with only three. If Jesus did it, it behooves us to follow his example. Find your advisers, advocates, and assistants so that you can fulfill your purpose and potential in your Kingdom business. What are your thoughts? How do you determine who you allow into your inner circle of relationships? Add your comments below. Save money on the essential services your use every day!“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” ~ Colossians 3:23 This blog is a follow up to one I wrote a few weeks ago, "Your W.O.R.K. is Worship", that got a lot of hits. I truly believe God wants us to demonstrate worship to Him through the work we do everyday as entrepreneurs. We must realize, though, that true worship is based on our lifestyles and work-styles. More than just singing slow songs in church, how we work is a key indicator of the authenticity of our worship. Here are four key essential business practices to turn your W.O.R.K. into real worship: 1) Seize Your Assignment Biblical examples: Peter, James, John (left fishing business to follow Jesus) “…Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men. So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.” ~ Luke 5:10-11 "Yet preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn't preach the Good News!" ~ 1 Corinthians 9:16 God wants to use those who are enthusiastic about being used by Him for His purposes. As Kingdom entrepreneurs we must realize that we are supposed to be following God's agenda and not our own. Our businesses and our lives belong to Him so we are at His beck and call to use our businesses as ministry platforms as the Holy Spirit directs us. Apostle Paul teaches us that the ministry of reconciliation belongs to every Christian. Therefore, your purpose/calling/mission in the marketplace is tied to the ministry of reconciliation. Take ownership of your calling and take action. When you actively and intentionally seek the Kingdom through your business, you can expect that great rewards are waiting for you. (MORE: Passion @ Work Career Development Programs) 2) Submit to Authority Biblical example: David (continually submitted to a king who wanted to kill him) “Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ.” ~ Ephesians 6:5 “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.” ~ Romans 13:1-2 Humility is the number one characteristic needed for a godly leader. Even as entrepreneurs we must submit to those in authority, i.e. laws, government, board of directors, business partners, and other stakeholders. A meek attitude is required for God to promote you in the Kingdom and in the marketplace. God wants to use you through your business in a great way, but you must have your heart and mind in the right place as it relates to how you deal with authority. Also, how you deal with conflict and persecution is a great indicator of your level of humility. 3) Serve with Excellence Biblical example: Daniel (strategic advisor to four kings) “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.” ~ Proverbs 22:29 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” ~ Matthew 5:14-30 Excellence is not something you do, it's who you are. Identify and maximize your talents, abilities, gifts, and skills in your business. Find your lane and flourish. Become the expert in your niche. Get better when nobody's watching. Become the best in the world at your craft. Be the go to expertise when people need your type of resource. When you have this kind of approach to your business, you are demonstrating deep appreciation to God for the talents and opportunities He gave to you to succeed in business. This is truly worship in action. (MORE: Passion @ Work Leadership Development Programs) 4) Solve Problems Biblical example: Joseph (promoted to second in command in Egypt because of his God-idea to thrive in a famine) “I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.” ~ Proverbs 8:12 “A man's gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.” ~ Proverbs 18:16 Your Kingdom assignment in the marketplace goes beyond what’s on your job description. One reason you were called to the marketplace is to solve problems with witty inventions that make God look good. The more problems you solve the brighter light for God you become. Problem solvers create value, are always in demand, and never go out of style. Profitable entrepreneurs are problem solvers. Wealth creating entrepreneurs are those who are able to keep solving problems. God wants your business to bring Him glory. So make sure you worship while you work!
