Face the Facts
- Talent mismatch: 8 million jobs posted online in the U.S. every month of 2011, while 13 million people continued to search for work during the exact same time.
- By 2020 the U.S. will need to create 21 million new jobs to return to full employment but, should present trends continue, there will be 1.5 million too few college graduates to meet demand and that 5.9 million people will not have the education employers require and will therefore be unemployable.
- While employment growth has quickened there are no jobs for three out of every four unemployed people and 23.8 million Americans are either out of work or underemployed.
- Since June 2009, the temporary help services industry, which is comprised of staffing companies and temporary agencies, has added 557,000 jobs, or 54 percent of all jobs created across all sectors of the economy.
- According to a recent white paper from consultancy Kelly Services, the number of contract workers in the United States has grown to 44 million, and a similar poll from MBO Partners revealed that number is projected to rise to 70 million by 2020.
Gospel centered community and economic development
Poverty, unemployment, and hopelessness are unfortunate realities for too many people in our urban communities. As it relates to the church's roles in reversing these norms, I believe Dr. Martin Luther King said it best:
“The gospel at its best deals with the whole man, not only with his soul but also his body, not only his spiritual well-being but also his material well-being. A religion that professes a concern for the souls of men and is not equally concerned about the slums that damn them, the economic conditions that strangle them and the social conditions that cripple them is a dry-as-dust religion.”
~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Churches can't do this by themselves. They must partner with businesses to make this happen. In fact they might need to partner with you business...
Kingdom Driven Community Transformation
Economic Evangelism 2.1 is a Kingdom-driven community transformation strategy with the goal of providing powerfully viable alternatives to the harsh financial realities faced by millions. The focus is on developing innovative strategies and utilizing fresh solutions to empower people spiritually, financially, and socially through our faith based entrepreneurship and business development initiatives at Kinsman Community Ministries, Inc.
By utilizing a Gospel-centered foundation, instead of just focusing on alleviating poverty, our aim is toward creating holistic prosperity. We're past teaching people how to fish. We need to teach them how to own the pond!

Whether we realize it or not, we are in the age of the "Entrepreneurial Economy". This doesn't mean everyone will be an entrepreneur. What it means is that every worker needs to approach the workforce with a new mindset. Along with a new mindset, workers will also need new transferable skills that will be sustainable in any work environment or economy.
Every person is a personal enterprise who brings significant value to the marketplace. While that may be somewhat frightening for some, this new normal actually creates many opportunities for those who are willing and able to adapt and adjust.

Creating Generational Cycles of Godly Prosperity
We hear a lot of talk about breaking cycles of poverty. What we don't hear a lot about is creating cycles of prosperity in families and communities that are used to systemic poverty. This requires innovative comprehensive strategies that involve spiritual and practical elements. At the heart of Economic Evangelism are spiritual and financial empowerment tools that meet the practical needs of people through holistic, faith-based business development and job skills training. The three driving principles that we focus on are:
- Jesus: Spiritual empowerment through discipleship.
- Jobs: Economic empowerment through entrepreneurship training and small business development.
- Justice: Social empowerment through education and advocacy.
