My Dream Young Boss Camp is only a few days away! We're so excited about the opportunity to pour into the lives of young people with the skills of learning how to start and grow their own social entrepreneurship business. During my nearly 10 years as a full-time entrepreneur one of the things that I have grown to appreciate are the transferable principles that I gained as a full-time employee. A few of these principles include preparation, time management, relationship building, work excellence, professionalism, and more are critical to your success as an entrepreneur or an employee. This book is targeted to young leaders who searching for their dream job or career path. The principles contained in this book are just as important for job seekers as they are for aspiring entrepreneurs. I want to share some exciting news with you. In my last post, We're Bringing Jobs to South Atlanta, I discussed the launch of Greater Works Vocational Discipleship Program. We have hit the ground running. After the successful launch and orientation of 21 young male participants into our program last week, little did I know that our crew from South Atlanta/Lakewood would witness our Heavenly Father's "Greater Works" in a most powerful way, with a blessing that exceeded our wildest expectations.
30 and Counting On Thursday, March 26, we made a passionate plea for “Men of Means” via our social media contacts to stand up and become a blessing to our the inner city men we had just recruited. Well guess what? The very next day Father God heard our cry and directed us to a business owner who had a heart of sincere compassion for these men. Although he was not even a professing Christian, his personality is of the most genuinely Christ-like character I've seen in a while. God's ways are not our ways… For literally 4 hours Mr. Sayeed Imran, Founder/CEO of Elegant Staffing, a high end event staffing company, sat down with now 30 of our men to interview each of them individually. The shout of joy came when after this interviewing marathon he proceeded to offer ALL OF THEM employment in his business - the majority at $10 an hour - even those who had no previous work experience! An Opportunity to Rebuild Men Although he employs over 700 people, unfortunately Mr. Imran's experience has been that the men he has employed have been less reliable than the women. So he was thoroughly impressed and excited to know that in addition to pre-employment training, Greater Works will provide loving, follow-up life development coaching often missing from our young men's lives, which will enable them to maintain their employment and high performance on the job long-term. Moreover, he understands that this will also have a positive direct impact to his bottom line! Praise God for providing us a visionary business owner who believes in Greater Works Vocational Discipleship and is giving us a chance to REBUILD THE CITY by REBUILDING IT'S MEN! We Need Your Support Please continue to pray for this God-inspired initiative and how He would lead you to support this opportunity to expand the Kingdom and transform lives. We are still in the process of raising our start-up capital, and would greatly appreciate your gift. You can give today at www.Greater-Works.com. God bless you and thanks in advance for your support! It's interesting - and almost tragic - that many people still don't realize or fully embrace that God chose you for something special. Indeed, He placed you on this planet for a specific purpose. And believe it or not, it's connected to your vocation. Although you may not like your job currently, or you have not yet have found the thing that gets you excited to get out of bed Monday mornings ( or any morning), His plan for you is connected to the work that you do now and will do in the future. In Mike Wittmer's recent article at The High Calling Blog recently entitled, Designed to Work: What Do You Make Possible?, he discusses the significance of the connection between our work and God's plan of redemption for our world. He states: What task has God called you to do? It might be menial, and it might be hard. Maybe you’re having a rough shift right now. If so, God has given you a golden opportunity. Can you describe what your job makes possible? How do you enable others to make something of the world? Answer these questions, and you will find God’s purpose in your job. You will know that you are serving Jesus and obeying the first command he ever gave you (Col. 3:17; 23-24; Gen. 1:28). So whether you love your job or hate it, just remember God wants to use it to change you and the people that He connects you to through the work you do. Ask God to give you a new perspective of your work so you can jump on board with His plan.

Did you know that fewer than half of American workers were satisfied with their jobs in 2013, according to a recent survey from the Conference Board? I believe one reason is that too many people have tried to fit their vocation into their occupation. What do I mean by that? The origin of the word vocation is “spiritual calling.” I would venture to say that most people don’t feel very “spiritual” about their 9 to 5. Your vocation goes beyond the job you do everyday. Your true vocation is linked to your life purpose. Unfortunately, not enough people understand their life purpose or do what’s necessary to pursue to a career that becomes a reflection of that. In a perfect world, of course, your occupation by default would be your vocation. But for most people that’s not the case. Many in the workforce are frustrated because they have a deep yet unfulfilled desire to do work they believe exemplifies and flows from their life purpose. Unfortunately, they don’t know how to make that a reality. With a deeper understanding of vocation, you can make the shift from work frustration to fulfillment. If you’re looking for a way to transition from the mundane to the meaningful; from working just for the money to work that is purposeful and fulfilling, click here to learn more about a free resource that would be of great benefit to you. Have you been able to find an occupation that closely aligns with your purpose? How did you do it? Looking forward to your comments. Whether we realize it or not, we are in the age of the "Entrepreneurial Economy". This doesn't mean everyone will be an entrepreneur. What it means is that every worker needs to approach the workforce with a new mindset. Along with a new mindset, workers will also need new transferable skills that will be sustainable in any work environment or economy. Every person is a personal enterprise who brings significant value to the marketplace. While that may be somewhat frightening for some, this new normal actually creates many opportunities for those who are willing and able to adapt and adjust. That's why we're excited to host Dream Rally for Jobs in Suffolk, VA this Friday, October 17th at Gates of Heaven C.O.G.I.C. We will be restoring hope, igniting visions, and inspiring dreams of the unemployed, underemployed, and misemployed. If you have been unsuccessful in finding meaning work with a living wage or you know someone in that position please join us for this special event beginning at 7:30 pm. Different day. Same results. One definition of insanity is continually doing the same thing, but expecting different results. This applies to many people in their career pursuits. They put their dreams on hold while working at a job they don’t like, for people who don’t appreciate their talents, and for pay that doesn’t reflect their true value or contributions. Their hope is that “one day” they will be able to pursue what’s really in their hearts. Sadly, “one day” often never comes for the majority of people who live/work like this. Since January 2008, millions of jobs had been lost. And although the unemployment rate has been dropping steadily, there are still millions of people stuck in the rut of underemployment or misemployment. I’m wondering how many of these people continue to focus their attention on seeking jobs in places that are paying people less than they are worth. I’m wondering how many people are sending out hundreds of resumes, competing against hundreds (or thousands) of other applicants in the hopes that a recruiter or hiring manager will be able to sift through the embellishments and enhancements to see them for the wonderfully talented, uniquely qualified, and distinctly special individuals that they are. So many people are searching for acceptance from a corporation without truly understanding or appreciating their own self worth. They are caught in an unending cycle of chasing something that only wants them for what they can produce versus who they are as individuals. In any other situation this type of relationship would be unacceptable. However, in career pursuits people tend to just accept this arrangement rather than pursuing a job/career path where their value is clearly recognized and highly appreciated.
